GASFIELD

Nature gas (largely methane) and oil are normally found together. Both derive from microscope marine organisms buried in layers of sediment and broken down over millions of year. Less dense than water, the two fuels may rise through permeable rocks to collect beneath a stratum of cap rock, often in folds created by movements in the earth's crust. The site of natural gas and oil can thus be accurately predicated by studying rock formations.
