GEARBOX

The gearbox, or manual transmission, of a car applies the engine's turning force (torque) to the wheels, and also allows the wheel's clutch plates connecting the engine. To engage the gears, clutch plates connecting the engine and gearbox are clamped together by a spring. To disengage the gears, pressure on this spring is released by pressing down the clutch pedal.
