Inside a film projector, light from a lamp is condensed into a strong beam. The beam shines through a rotating shutter on to a moving strip of film. The shutter lets light through only when each picture on the film is in the right position. The images are flashed on to a screen in such rapid succession that the picture appears to be moving continuously.
